This Self-Care Sunday, we want to focus on the importance of staying hydrated, and provide some resources on where to find healthy food while you’re on the go in Calgary during CCMA Country Music Week. Read on to learn how you can take care of yourself, and where to find your #CCMAfuel as this busy week approaches.
We always hear that drinking water is important, and that staying hydrated is essential for our body and mind to function properly. We wanted to dive in and chat a bit more about how to incorporate ways to stay hydrated while on the go.
Heading into Country Music Week, we know we’ll be over-exerting ourselves by talking a lot, being in hotels with recycled air, and likely mixing in some alcohol in there.
Here’s why you may want to consider increasing your water intake.
Drinking water has a huge impact on our cognitive function and energy levels. It helps to treat and prevent headaches. Remember why you are attending this event and be ready to make a quality impression of your best self. This means taking care of yourself first.
According to the Dieticians of Canada,
“The human body is about 60-70 percent water. We need water to help us digest food, carry nutrients, remove waste, cushion organs and maintain fluid and electrolyte balance.”
According to Harvard University Study, an article on the importance of staying hydrated outlines that,
“Drinking fluids is crucial to staying healthy and maintaining the function of every system in your body, including your heart, brain, and muscles.”
There are many warning signs that’ll go off if you’re not staying hydrated, like feeling weak, feeling dizzy, developing a headache, and experiencing a shift in your overall mood.
How can you stay hydrated on the go?
- Pack and carry your favourite portable drink container OR purchase one that is durable and eco-friendly – Here’s a few options available at Walmart, which is typically found in almost every city or town in Canada.
- Start your day off with water – making a morning routine out of drinking water will not only get you started off right, but will also give your body and mind a positive kickstart to the day. It’s easy to do while getting ready and helps to get the body moving.
- Reach for herbal tea over coffee throughout the day – Although caffeine may be the habitual routine in a day, it is also dehydrating, consider switching it up and incorporating non-caffeinated herbal tea.
- When arriving to a mixer or sit down awards, start with water first and monitor your intake while at each networking event –Drinking alcohol will dehydrate you and impair your cognitive function. Be mindful on the amount you’re consuming. Same goes with pop and any other sugar filled beverages.
- Sneak in a smoothie in your busy day – Not only will it give you some extra vitamins and nutrients to get through the weekend, it will also provide hydration from the amount of water in the fruits and veggies.
